Sybiha told the press conference that the meeting, held in Chobielin, northern Poland, on Friday, focused on the development of bilateral cooperation, of which "increasing defence capabilities, establishing joint production, and developing joint defence industries are key."

He said that the discussions were also about "how to effectively utilise the mechanisms established within the European Union and NATO."

Both Sybiha and Sikorski welcomed Thursday's conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Poland's President-elect Karol Nawrocki, which he described as "good and fruitful."

During the call, Nawrocki, who had been supported by the main opposition party, Law and Justice (PiS), during the presidential campaign, reaffirmed Warsaw's continued backing for war-torn Ukraine.

"I firmly believe that Poland will always support a free and independent Ukraine," Sikorski said on Friday. "I am glad that President Zelensky's conversation with our president-elect confirms this."

According to the Polish foreign minister, Poland's main political factions are in alignment regarding this matter, as he said that a free Kyiv is a guarantee of Warsaw's security.

Sikorski also announced that Poland's 48th and 49th packages of military aid for Ukraine were underway.(PAP)aj/mmr
