Polish, Ukrainian FMs urge countermeasures against Russian maritime terror
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski have held talks focused on countering intensified Russian maritime terror, according to a statement published by Sybiha on social media.
The briefing coincided with warnings from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who told a joint press conference in Kyiv with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin on Thursday that Russia is highly likely to ramp up its maritime strikes.
"Just had a good conversation with my Polish friend, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs @sikorskiradek," Sybiha wrote in English on X late on Thursday. "We discussed Russia's intensified attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea and the implications of this terror for global food security."
During the call, Sybiha updated Sikorski on the latest wave of mass Russian missile and drone strikes hitting Kyiv and other urban centres. Both welcomed the adoption of the European Union's 21st sanctions package against Russia, a move Sybiha described as a long-awaited decision. They also agreed on "the urgent need to further increase pressure on Russia", according to the statement.
The conversation also covered advancing Ukraine's European Union integration. Sybiha expressed gratitude for Warsaw's support in opening the first two out of six EU negotiation clusters. (PAP)
