Rescue operation in progress after tremor hits Polish mine

A rescue effort is underway after a tremor struck the Knurow coal mine in southern Poland on Monday night, as reported by the mine's owner, JSW.

Tomasz Siemieniec, the spokesperson for JSW, said on Tuesday that the tremor occurred 850 metres below the surface at around 9:26pm on Monday.

At the time of the incident, eight miners were in the affected area, with seven being successfully evacuated.

Seven rescue teams are involved in the rescue operation, which aims to establish contact with the remaining miner.(PAP)
