Turnout in Poland's local elections at 16.52 pct by noon

The turnout in the Sunday local elections amounted to 16.52 percent by noon, the State Electoral Commission (PKW) announced during a press conference at 1:30 pm.

There are 28,895,220 Poles eligible to vote.

The highest election turnout was reported in the Podlaskie province, north-eastern Poland, as it reached 19.13 percent, and the lowest in the Opolskie province, south-western Poland, where it amounted to 14.23 percent. 

The election turnout in Warsaw reached 16.45 percent. 

Local elections started in Poland at 7am. Polling stations will close at 9pm. A run-off round, if necessary, will be held on April 21.

The turnout in the 2018 local elections amounted to 15.62 percent by noon. 

The State Electoral Commission (PKW) will hold two more press conferences later on Sunday. The third is planned at 6:30 pm, and the fourth at 10pm, after the closure of polling stations.(PAP)
