Tusk renews appeal to US House speaker to put Ukraine aid to vote

Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, has again urged Mike Johnson, speaker of the US House of Representatives, to put to a vote an urgently-needed aid package that includes USD 60 billion for Ukraine.

The package, which has already been passed by the Senate, has been stuck in the House as Johnson refuses to put it to a vote despite apparent support for the bill in the US lower house.

Johnson, a Republican, insists that he will not be "rushed" into approving the USD 95.3 billion foreign aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, of which Ukraine is planned to receive USD 60 billion.

"Look at Odessa, Speaker Johnson!" Tusk wrote in English on the X platform on Saturday.

"How many more arguments do you need to take a decision?" he added.

On Friday, Russian forces launched a missile attack on the Ukrainian port city of Odessa, targeting civilian infrastructure. As of Saturday, the number of people killed in the attack increased to 21, while 70 were injured. (PAP)
