Israel launched a massive aerial attack on Iran on Friday morning, targeting the country's nuclear and military facilities and killing top military commanders and nuclear scientists. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a Friday address to the nation that the operation is aimed at crippling Iran's ability to develop atomic weapons.

On Friday night and Saturday morning, Iran retaliated, launching waves of drones and ballistic missiles at Israel, leaving at least four people dead and over 70 injured, in addition to damaged residential buildings and infrastructure.

"The confrontation between Israel and Iran is moving towards a regular war in the region that may destabilise the whole world," Tusk wrote on platform X on Saturday morning. Since WWII we haven't been so close to a global conflict.

"Europe and the US must unite their efforts to stop further escalation. It is still not too late!," he added. (PAP)
