By securing an absolute majority, Trzaskowski, who represents the Civic Coalition (KO), the largest grouping in the coalition government, avoids a run-off vote.
Donald Tusk, the prime minister, said the result had confirmed the mayor as a leader of local government in Poland. (PAP)
