Warsaw rolls out educational campaign targeting potential migrants
Poland has launched an awareness campaign targeting potential migrants from parts of Africa and South Asia, warning of no "flourishing life in Europe," the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported.
"We have launched an informational campaign in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Pakistan and Egypt, targeting potential migrants," Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski wrote in a post on X on Friday. "The country is working (on the issue - PAP)," the minister added, stressing that Poland has "protected its borders successfully."
In the post, the minister attached a video in a foreign language, showing the barrier that stretches along the Polish border with Belarus, as well as border officers guarding the area and patrolling the terrain. The spot features English subtitles stating, among other things, that the "Polish-Belarussian border is not a gateway to Europe."
Furthermore, the footage warns viewers that Polish services are combating human trafficking attempts, adding that migrants will be denied asylum rights in Poland.
"Those who are promising you a flourishing life in Europe are lying," the subtitles read.
The announcement follows Warsaw's decision to prolong the existing suspension of asylum rights on May 26. Initially introduced in late March, the measure bans asylum seekers from filing requests for international protection for 60 days.
In January 2022, Poland began constructing a 186-kilometre-long, 5.5-metre-high barrier on the border with Belarus. The fence is equipped with military-grade features and is intended to safeguard the country from the Minsk-orchestrated migrant crisis and other threats. (PAP)
