Polish president to meet UK PM in London for talks on security
President Karol Nawrocki's working visit to London will focus on discussing security issues, including peace in Ukraine, with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, a presidential aide has announced.
The trip will be Nawrocki's first visit to the United Kingdom after becoming Poland's president in August last year. The agenda includes talks with Starmer on Tuesday as well as a meeting with the Polish diaspora in the UK.
Marcin Przydacz, the presidential foreign policy chief, told journalists before Nawrocki's departure to London on Monday that "political consultations" would be the main aim of the visit.
He added that the discussions would focus on security policy, in the context of ongoing negotiations regarding peace in Ukraine conducted by the US, Ukraine and the so-called Coalition of the Willing, a group of states supporting Ukraine's fight against the Russian aggression.
Przydacz said that the UK was Poland's key NATO ally and a partner in cooperation on security and defence. Polish and British defence industries were collaborating on building frigates for the Polish Navy and missile defence systems. UK soldiers are also stationing in Poland as part of NATO's combat forces. (PAP)
