"It seems like the Americans and Ukrainians have taken an important step towards peace," Tusk wrote on the X platform on Tuesday. "And Europe stands ready to help reach a just and lasting peace," he added.

A joint statement released by the United States and Ukraine following peace discussions in Jeddah, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, stated that Ukraine had consented to accept a 30-day immediate ceasefire proposed by the US. In exchange, the US will reinstate intelligence sharing and military cooperation with Ukraine, which had been recently suspended.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said after the meeting that the US proposed a 30-day total ceasefire, encompassing airspace, maritime areas and the frontline in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian conflict.
