Chopin 2025: Chopin's music is always moving, beautiful, says pianist Tianyao Lyu
Chinese pianist Tianyao Lyu said after her performance in the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition finals on Saturday that Chopin's music is always moving and beautiful.
Saturday was the first day of the final auditions, which will end on Monday.
"His music is always moving and beautiful. My greatest dream is to play his music," Tianyao Lyu told journalists after her performance.
"During the competition, I didn't feel stressed or very tired at all. I am a cheerful person by nature. I think I get that from my dad, who is cheerful," she said.
She pointed out that it was also thanks to her father that she started playing the piano. "I was five years old, and it all started with playing together. One of my most wonderful memories is how my father and I played together. However, he never pressured me to become a pianist."
She said that she loves playing the piano. "I never count how many hours a day I practise. Of course, I do other things too, but playing the piano is simply a pleasure for me."
Tianyao Lyu is the youngest participant in the competition' final. When asked how she prepared to perform the Polonaise-Fantasy Op. 61, which is a mature work by Fryderyk Chopin, the pianist said that she thought a lot about this piece.
"At first, I didn't feel comfortable with it at all. But over time, I felt the emotions that the composer put into it, especially melancholy. It occupies a special place in his complex musical language," she said, adding that she put her heart into the performance of this piece.
The 19th edition of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, organised by Poland's Fryderyk Chopin Institute, runs from October 2 to October 23.
