Chopin 2025: Competition prizewinners start world tour
A Friday performance by the winner of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Eric Lu, and finalist David Khrikuli marks the start of the competition winners' concert tour across Europe, Asia and America.
Organised by the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute (NIFC) and the Liu Kotow music production agency, the concert tour begins on Friday in Katowice, southern Poland, where the two pianists will perform at the headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.
On the same day, Kevin Chen, the competition runner-up, will perform in Wroclaw, south-western Poland.
Following performances across some of Poland's largest cities, the top laureates will continue the European leg of the tour in Berlin. American gold medallist Lu and Canadian second-prize winner Kevin Chen will be joined by Chinese bronze medallist Zitong Wang for a gala concert at the Berlin Philharmonic. The performances will be followed by concerts in Italy, Estonia, South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan, Canada, Argentina and France. The tour will conclude in August 2026.
The results of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition were announced overnight from Monday to Tuesday. The fourth prize (ex aequo) went to Tianyao Lyu of China and Shiori Kuwahara of Japan. The fifth prize (also ex aequo) was awarded to Piotr Alexewicz of Poland and Vincent Ong of Malaysia. The sixth prize went to William Yang from the US.
The remaining finalists — David Khrikuli (Georgia), Miyu Shindo (Japan) and Tianyou Li (China) — received equal distinction awards granted by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute.
