Chopin 2025: Polish pianists among winners of special prizes
Poles Piotr Alexewicz, Yehuda Prokopowicz and Mateusz Dubiel were among the winners of non-regulation awards at the 19th Fryderyk Chopin International Competition, with American, Georgian, Japanese and Chinese contestants also on the list.
During the concert, held in the National Philharmonic's main hall, audiences will hear selected works by Fryderyk Chopin performed by the 2025 competition prizewinners, featuring pieces they presented during the event.
The evening will open with performances by Adam Kaldunski and Yehuda Prokopowicz, both from Poland. Kaldunski received the Bella Davidovich Prize for the best performance of a ballade, while Prokopowicz was awarded the Polish Radio Prize for the best performance of mazurkas.
They will be followed by William Yang of the United States, winner of the 6th prize, and Piotr Alexewicz of Poland, the winner of the 5th prize (ex aequo), then the second 5th-prize winner, Vincent Ong of Malaysia.
Next on stage will be the two 4th prize laureates: Shiori Kuwahara from Japan and Tianyao Lyu from China.
The concert will conclude with performances by Zitong Wang of China, the 3rd prize winner, and Kevin Chen of Canada, who took 2nd prize.
The competition winner, Eric Lu from the US, will play last and will perform Chopin's Piano Concerto in F minor, Op. 21, while being accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrzej Boreyko.
