Poland's finance ministry has formally requested Google Polska to provide information on why it published inaccurate information on the zloty exchange rate, the ministry announced on the X platform on Tuesday.

The ministry added that it had also asked Google Polska about actions that could be taken to "avoid similar situations in the future."

On Monday evening, some websites had inaccurately written that the euro was worth as much as PLN 5.73, an increase of 32 percent.

Andrzej Domanski, the finance minister, said yesterday that the apparent news that the zloty had weakened sharply against the euro was "fake" and attributed the mistake to a "data source error."

While asking people to "remain calm," he also referred to Bloomberg, which showed the euro was worth PLN 4.34.

Markets on Tuesday morning listed the euro at PLN 4.34. (PAP)
