Firefighters put out huge blaze at Warsaw car repair shop
A massive fire that tore through a car repair shop and posed a risk to an integrated auto showroom in Warsaw has been extinguished with no casualties reported, authorities confirmed late on Thursday morning.
The State Fire Service received the emergency call at 5:09am, according to Lukasz Wujek from the Warsaw Command. Upon arrival, emergency crews found an 80-by-40-metre structure on Krasnobrodzka Street in Warsaw's Targowek district fully engulfed in flames.
A deployment of 45 firefighting units was on the scene. The response included a specialised chemical rescue team, aerial lifts, and reconnaissance drones to combat the blaze.
Shortly after 10:00am, Junior Brigadier Michal Konopka told PAP that the fire had been extinguished, though it caused extensive damage.
"Virtually the entire facility and over a dozen cars were destroyed by the fire," Konopka said. "However, a neighbouring showroom that was also threatened by the fire was saved. No injuries have been reported."
Warsaw police cordoned off the affected area during the rescue operations. A formal investigation into the exact cause of the fire will begin now that the extinguishing efforts are concluded, police officials said. (PAP)
