Krakow's historic Wawel Castle attracted more visitors in 2017
Over 1.4 million tourists visited the historic Royal Castle, on Wawel Hill, in the southern city of Krakow last year. Its branches, Pieskowa Skala Castle and the Manor House in Stryszow, were visited by 141,641 and 8,164 tourists, respectively.
"Last year, the Royal Castle was visited by 1,442,860 people, 50,000 more than in 2016," Sabina Potaczek-Jasionowicz, the Wawel Royal Castle's head of social communications, told PAP. "The increase in the number of visitors is also visible in the off-season and concerns mainly foreign tourists," she added.
In 2017, there were more visitors from Italy, Spain, France, Russia and Ukraine arriving in the autumn and winter season, as compared to previous years.
Wawel Castle, the former residence of Polish kings, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1978, has for years been among the top tourist attractions of Krakow and Poland. (PAP)
