Polish National Foundation launches 'team100' to promote young sportsmen
A "team100" programme announced Wednesday in Warsaw by the Sport and Tourism Ministry, Polish National Foundation (PFN) and Polish PM Beata Szydlo will provide financial aid to promising young sportsmen.
The programme, authored by the ministry and the Polish National Foundation on the initiative by Sport and Tourism Minister Witold Banka, will be open to young competitors between 18 and 23. Participants will receive an annual grant of PLN 40,000 (EUR 9.4 thousand) to finance special training, dietetics, medicare and also education.
The programme is to launch in July as the first of its kind in Poland.
"The Polish National Foundation is an institution established to initiate projects promoting our country and Polish values abroad. The young competitors who will receive aid under the (team100 - PAP) programme (...) can be excellent ambassadors of Poland", Szydlo observed.
Describing the team100 project, sports minister said it was addressed to outstanding young sportsmen with prospects to become top in their discipline.
"team100 is a programme for talented competitors who may become our sporting elite in coming years. It is constructed to support such sportsmen in their training and competitive activities, but also (...) in in sport-unconnected situations", Banka said.
Polish National Foundation head Cezary Andrzej Jurkiewicz said that by aiding young sportsmen the team100 programme was promoting Polish values. He added that the programme's proteges had a chance to become "ambassadors of Polishness in the world".
The programme-partnering Polish National Foundation was founded by 17 major Polish companies to promote and protect Poland's international image. According to Polish PM Beata Szydlo the foundation and its team100 project were helping to produce "excellent ambassadors of Poland in the world".
