Poland 2016 European Men's Handball Championship comes to a close
The games were held in four Polish cities: Krakow, Wroclaw, Katowice and Gdansk, from January 15 to 31. Germany beat Spain 24-17 in the final match and Croatia won third place beating Norway 31-24.
Poland's team ended the tournament in seventh place losing to Croatia (37-23) in the group phase and winning the last match against Sweden (26-24).
At Poland 2016, a new Men's European Handball Federation EURO spectator record was already set ahead of the semi-finals as more than 340,000 people had seen the matches up to then and this number is likely to rise to 400,000 fans.
"The number of approximately 400,000 spectators exceeded all expectations from EHF and the Organising Committee", said Wiederer in an interview published on the Poland 2016 official website.
According to EHF Secretary General Michael Wiederer, Poland 2016 was a great success, not only in terms of the number of fans but also thanks to the great atmosphere in the arenas. (PAP)
