Poland upholds its stance on budget, rule of law mechanism
During a brief 15-minute video conference of EU heads of state and government, the Polish PM upheld Poland's earlier stand on the EU budget and the rule of law mechanism.
Apart from Germany's Angela Merkel and Charles Michel, the head of the European Council, the conference, devoted to the multi-annual budget and the rule of law mechanism, was addressed by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, as well as his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban and the Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Jansa.
According to a high-ranking source close to the meeting, the three "very briefly repeated their positions."
Twenty minutes after the start of the summit, spokesman for the head of the European Council Barend Leyts, wrote on Twitter that the leaders were returning to their main planned topic, the COVID-19 pandemic.
EU leaders, according to EU diplomats wanted to hear directly from the prime ministers of Poland and Hungary what their specific expectations were.
One high-ranking EU official stated that it was practically impossible to hold negotiations via a video conference. The next face-to-face meeting of EU leaders is scheduled for December. (PAP)
