One miner dead after tremor hits Polish coal mine

One miner was killed after a tremor struck the Knurow coal mine in southern Poland on Monday night, as reported by the mine's owner, JSW on Tuesday night.

The tremor occurred 850 metres below the surface at around 9:26pm on Monday. At the time of the incident, eight miners were in the affected area, with seven being successfully evacuated.

A total of 26 rescue teams were involved in the operation, which aimed to establish contact with the remaining miner. Unfortunately, a 40-year-old individual has been found dead.

Five miners, out of the seven who had been successfully evacuated, have already left hospital.

Meanwhile, a similar accident occurred in the Murcki-Staszic coal mine in the southern city of Katowice on Wednesday morning. Four miners suffered minor injuries from a tremor of a magnitude of 1.11 on the Richter scale.
