Katarzyna Zdanowicz, spokesperson for the Podlaskie Border Guard, told PAP on Monday that out of the 125 individuals detained, 62 were denied entry into Poland, while 49 were handed over to the Lithuanian side under readmission agreements. The remaining 14 are suspected of organising or assisting in illegal border crossings.

Despite earlier concerns, authorities report that movement across the border has been smooth.

The checks are being conducted at 13 locations along the border with Lithuania. Three of these are official border crossings, with the remaining ten serving as temporary control points.

The temporary controls at Poland’s borders with Germany and Lithuania were reinstated due to an observed spike in irregular migration on July 7, and were prolonged for another 60 days on Friday.(PAP)aj/mf
