Czeslaw Siekierski attended the conference 'Polish Agriculture - 20 years in the EU' on Thursday.

He said that Poland, which takes over the presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2025, "wants to contribute to the assessment and directions of changes in the future CAP, and to all the challenges related to the prevention of climate change and the liberalisation of trade between EU and Ukraine."

Siekierski noted that since joining the EU, Poland has registered a ten-fold increase in the export value of agri-food products.

Nevertheless, he pointed out that the country needs to prepare for the competition from the development of Ukrainian agriculture.

"We are destined to cooperate with Ukraine, to compete and be rivals," he said.

According to him, Ukraine "in the economic perspective is already in the EU" but it does not have to meet all the requirements applicable to Poland and other member states. (PAP)
