Last week, the EC notified 26 member states, including Poland, which failed to communicate the national measures taken to enforce the provisions of the amending Directive (EU) 2023/2413 regarding the promotion of energy from renewable sources by the deadline of May 21.

The Polish climate ministry claimed in a statement sent to PAP on Monday that the deadline for the directive's implementation was relatively short - 18 months, and that the document covers a very wide scope, encompassing innovative aspects that are difficult to incorporate quickly on a national level.

"Poland is making efforts to implement the provisions of the directive into national law as soon as possible," the ministry said, adding that it remains in contact with the EC.

The EC stated that enacting new rules is crucial to accelerate the energy transition, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and reinforce energy security and competitiveness of the EU economy.

Notified member states have two months to respond and address the issue. Otherwise, they will pass to the next stage of the infringement procedure. (PAP)aj/mf
