Poland deports Ukrainian who paralysed Warsaw metro
A 38-year-old Ukrainian national who on Monday threw a rucksack on the metro tracks in the centre of Warsaw and brought the vital mode of transport to a virtual standstill, has been deported to Ukraine, the border guard reported on Thursday.
After throwing his backpack on the tracks, the Ukrainian man fled the scene.
The incident happened at Warsaw's Metro Centrum station in the rush hour. The transport services had to shut down several stations on the north-west metro line and provide replacement buses for tens of thousands of commuters while the rucksack's contents were being checked for explosives.
His deportation was confirmed on Thursday by Piotr Niemiec from the press service of the Nadwislanski Border Guard Unit.
"The man has been banned from entering Poland and the Schengen Area for ten years. He is also a persona non grata in Poland. He has already been escorted to the border and has returned to Ukraine," Niemiec said. (PAP)
