He said that he had already discussed this with Wlodzimierz Czarzasty, deputy speaker of the Sejm and co-leader of the Left party, who, under the coalition agreement, is to serve as the lower house speaker from November 14 until the end of the term.

Holownia told a press briefing on Tuesday that there was no Sejm meeting scheduled for the date specified in the coalition agreement and he and Czarzasty had agreed that they would not convene an additional session solely for the purpose of appointing the speaker.

"We agreed that on November 13th, I would resign, effective November 19th, because November 19th is the day the Sejm is in session," he said.

Holownia added that before that the conditions agreed upon withing the coalition must be met, namely the nomination of Katarzyna Pelczynska-Nalecz, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, to the position of a deputy prime minister, as recommended by the National Council of Holownia's party Poland 2050.

Last week, Holownia announced his application for the post of the next UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the public recruitment process launched by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. (PAP)
