"My Starlink system is the backbone of the Ukrainian army. Their entire front line would collapse if I turned it off," Elon Musk wrote on the X platform on Sunday.

"Starlinks for Ukraine are paid for by the Polish Digitisation Ministry at the cost of about USD 50 million per year," Sikorski wrote on the X platform later on Sunday in response to Musk's post.

Musk, the owner of SpaceX, the supplier of Starlink terminals, is currently heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an advisory body created by US President Donald Trump tasked with reducing US government spending.

"What I am sickened by is years of slaughter in a stalemate that Ukraine will inevitably lose," he added. "Anyone who really cares, really thinks and really understands wants the meat grinder to stop," wrote Musk.

"The ethics of threatening the victim of aggression apart, if SpaceX proves to be an unreliable provider we will be forced to look for other suppliers," Sikorski added.

Since the beginning of Russia's invasion, SpaceX has supplied Ukraine with tens of thousands of satellite internet terminals used by the Ukrainian army to maintain communication under difficult frontline conditions.(PAP)
