Poland, Ukraine to jointly seek financing for war effort
Poland is prepared to produce military hardware and equipment for Ukraine's war with Russia, while Warsaw and Kyiv will together seek financing for joint defence investments, Poland's prime minister said in Kyiv on Monday.
Donald Tusk travelled to the Ukrainian capital for talks with the country's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and prime minister, Denys Shmyhal, after which he announced that the two countries had reached agreement on continued support for Ukraine's war against Russia.
"Poland will be ready to produce and support Ukraine with hardware and equipment," Tusk told a press conference after the talks. "We will jointly seek financing and we will not avoid commercial principles when it comes to Polish deliveries for Ukraine."
He said the agreement would aid the security and interests of both countries.
"We also discussed, and will finalise talks on, joint investments in the production of arms and ammunition," Tusk continued. "For many years, Poland has repeated the words: every country in Europe, Europe as a whole, and the West, must face the threat that Russia poses."
He said Warsaw and Kyiv would invest in Polish and Ukrainian companies that would "act to increase our defensive capacity: Ukraine's, Poland's, and Europe's." (PAP)
