Earlier that day, the cabinet adopted an initial draft of the budget for 2026.

Domanski told a press conference that next year's general government deficit is forecast at 6.5 percent of GDP, compared to 6.9 percent this year, while the general government debt will amount to 53.8 percent of GDP."

"The state budget revenues for 2026 are projected in the budget act at PLN 647 billion (EUR 151.6 billion), which means nearly PLN 44 billion (EUR 10.3 billion) more compared to the execution forecast for 2025," he said, adding that the forecast was lowered due to lower than planned inflation.

Expenditures are planned to amount to PLN 918.9 billion (EUR 215.3 billion), according to the initial budget draft for 2026. The draft envisages spending PLN 200 billion (EUR 46.86 billion), or 4.8 percent of GDP, on defence and PLN 247.8 billion (EUR 58.1 billion) on healthcare, which is PLN 25 billion (EUR 5.86 billion) more than last year.

Poland's economy is expected to grow by 3.4 percent in 2025 and by 3.5 percent in 2026, with average annual inflation forecasts at 3.0 percent, Domanski also said.(PAP)
