Poland's unemployment unchanged in October - ministry
Poland’s registered unemployment rate remained at 5.6 percent in October, unchanged from the previous month, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy (MRPiPS) said on Thursday.
Economists surveyed by PAP Biznes had expected the unemployment rate to stay at 5.6 percent in October.
According to the ministry’s data, the number of registered unemployed people reached 868,300 at the end of October, an increase of 2,200 compared with September.
“Despite a slight increase in the number of registered unemployed people, the pace of this growth is clearly slowing down. Since September, a decline in the rate of increase in the number of unemployed people has been observed, which may indicate stabilisation in the labour market following a period of increased job turnover,” the ministry said.
Employers reported 35,400 job vacancies and professional activation opportunities in labour offices in October, marking a 14 percent decrease compared with the previous month.
The ministry said the decline might result from lower recruitment activity among companies and the seasonal reduction of new job offers.
The highest number of vacancies reported in October, exceeding 1,000, were intended for office workers, sales assistants, warehouse staff, and production workers. (PAP)
