Polish airplane skids off runway while landing in Vilnius
A passenger plane operated by LOT Polish Airlines veered off the runway when landing in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, the country's civil aviation authority has reported.
Representative of Lithuanian Airports, Tadas Vasiliauskas, said that the Embraer E170STD plane, flight number LO771, that was en route to Vilnius from Warsaw overshot the runway at 1:43pm local time on Wednesday while taxiing towards the apron.
LOT's spokesperson Krzysztof Moczulski wrote later on X that all 63 passengers and four crew members were evacuated to safety and that the return flight to Warsaw had been cancelled. "The situation is being currently assessed by PLL LOT's technical services in cooperation with the operations crew of the Vilnius airport," he added.
An Embraer 170 aircraft, registration SP-LDK, operating a LOT Polish Airlines service LO771 from Warsaw to Vilnius, left the paved surface of the taxiway during the final phase of the landing roll.

"No passengers were injured, and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated," Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) said in a statement quoted by the Lithuanian BNS news service.
BNS also reported that, shortly after the incident, the LTOU called a meeting attended by the country's Transport Minister Juras Taminskas, representatives of the Ministry of Justice and LTOU executives.
The airport's runway has been temporarily closed at least until 5pm local time and planes headed for Vilnius have been diverted to other airports. (PAP)
