Polish, Swedish PMs, ministers start bilateral consultations
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his Swedish counterpart, Ulf Kristersson, opened consultations between the countries' governments on Monday morning in Poland's coastal city of Gdynia.
The talks are the first-ever intergovernmental consultations between Poland and Sweden.
The Swedish Prime Minister's Office said last week that Kristersson will be accompanied by Defence Minister Pal Jonson, Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard, Infrastructure Minister Andreas Carlson, EU Affairs Minister Jessica Rosencrantz and Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand.
Apart from Tusk, Poland is represented by Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski, Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak and Culture Minister Marta Cienkowska.
The Polish Prime Minister's Office said the talks will focus on European security, cooperation within NATO and the EU, the situation on the Baltic Sea and further support for Ukraine.
According to the last-week statement from Sweden, new information on bilateral cooperation when it comes to Poland's planned purchase of Swedish submarines is also to be presented.
Within the Orka programme, Poland is set to acquire three new submarines. In November last year, Sweden was selected as the programme's partner, offering the A26-class vessels currently being built for its navy by Saab. A Polish-Swedish intergovernmental agreement was concluded at that time as well. (PAP)
