War in Ukraine is also our war, Polish PM says
The war in Ukraine is also our war, whether someone likes it or not, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told the participants of the Warsaw Security Forum on Monday.
In his address at the opening of the two-day international conference dedicated to European and global security, Tusk said that the most important task for thought leaders was "to make the entire Western community, the entire transatlantic community, painfully aware, deep in their minds and hearts, that there is a war going on."
"We must realise... that this is our war, because the war in Ukraine is only part of this ghastly project that appears in the world from time to time," he said. "And the goal of this political project is always the same. How to enslave nations, how to take away the freedom of individuals, what to do to ensure that authoritarianism, despotism, cruelty and the lack of human rights triumph."
The prime minister said that people should not take peace for granted.
"Peace is not something particularly specific to this part of the world," he continued. "Quite the contrary. And that is why this reflection on security, on war, on peace, on the Western community, is so important."
He also warned that the Western community cannot afford to lose the war in Ukraine.
"If we lose this war, the consequences will affect not only our generation, but also future generations. In Poland, throughout Europe, in the United States, everywhere in the world," he remarked.
The Warsaw Security Forum, taking place on Monday and Tuesday, is attended by politicians, military officials and security experts from some 80 countries. (PAP)
