Chopin 2025: Poland's Piotr Alexewicz wins Audience Award

Polish pianist Piotr Alexewicz has captured the listeners' hearts and votes, securing the Audience Award for the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.

Alexewicz, who was awarded the fifth prize by the competition jury, triumphed in the public vote category. He secured 19,961 votes, which was the highest number among all 11 finalists.

The second place went to Vincent Ong of Malaysia (11,547 votes), who was followed by Chinese Tianyao Lyu (8,224 votes).

On Tuesday, by the decision of the international jury chaired by American pianist Garrick Ohlsson, Eric Lu, from the US, won the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition. Kevin Chen of Canada placed second, while Zhitong Wang of China won third prize. The fourth prize (ex aequo) went to Tianyao Liu of China and Shiori Kuwahara of Japan. The fifth prize (also ex aequo) was awarded to Piotr Alexewicz of Poland and Vincent Ong of Malaysia. The sixth prize went to William Yang from the US. (PAP)
