Main Polish opposition begins conference to set new political agenda
Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who leads Poland's main opposition party, the socially conservative Law and Justice (PiS), has opened its two-day gathering aiming to draft a new political agenda in preparation for the country's next parliamentary election in 2027.
The PiS conference is being held in the southern city of Katowice over Friday and Saturday.
In his opening address, Kaczynski said on Friday that the party must focus on key topics that include security, social issues, including housing, healthcare and the economy.
"Those... subjects... are of great interest to the society, concern its genuine interests and therefore must be important for all those who aspire to take the reins of the country," Kaczynski said, referring to the PiS ambition to return to power.
In 2023, after governing Poland for eight years, PiS lost the parliamentary election to the currently ruling centrist Civic Coalition (KO). (PAP)
