Poland to continue local road investments amid crisis - PM

The Polish economy needs a range of stimulation activities, and local road investments are part of the government's fight against the fallout from the coronavirus epidemic, PM Mateusz Morawiecki told a press conference on Wednesday.

"We need to rebuild and strengthen the parts of our economy that will be helping us, helping the whole of society, to get out of this economic trouble that we are falling into due to coronavirus," Morawiecki said.

A strengthened Local Government Roads Fund is an important element of putting Poland back on the right economic track, the prime minister said.

"We need a counter-offensive, we need activities stimulating the economy on a number of levels. The Local Government Roads Fund is worth more than PLN 3 bln (EUR 660 mln) and it is not our final word," Morawiecki said.

The development impulse will benefit local governments, as well as small and medium-sized companies, the prime minister added. (PAP)
