Poland fends off 99 pct of cyber-attacks, digitisation minister says
On Wednesday, Gawkowski took part in an inauguration of the academic year at the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology, where he gave a lecture about cybersecurity.
"Cybersecurity is undoubtedly becoming part of everyday life and a challenge in times of hybrid threats...," Gawkowski said. "Cybersecurity is everywhere we look today. From matters crucial to the state, such as healthcare, administration and education, to sports, tourism, recreation, agriculture and everyday life."
He went on to say that every day Poland recorded between 2,000 and 4,000 cyber-attacks, with 99 percent of them being repelled.
Recalling last year's cyber-attack on the Polish Press Agency, Gawkowski said: "PAP is a state body and a public trust institution that is supposed to issue reliable news releases so that we know what is true and what is not. In June 2024, PAP was hit by a hybrid attack, which involved sending a message to all radio stations in Poland at the same time and place, instructing them to broadcast live that Poland was going to mobilise and go to war."
He said it was now clear who was behind the attack.
"They were Russians," he said. "The attack was designed to paralyse Poland in a single moment," Gawkowski said. (PAP)
