Sikorski warns of Moscow's hybrid war at OSCE rights talks in Warsaw
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has said at the opening of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's (OSCE) conference in Warsaw that Russia and its allies are waging a hybrid war to deepen democratic social divisions in the region.
The Warsaw Human Dimension Conference launched on Monday and saw Finnish Foreign Minister and the OSCE's President Elina Valtonen, OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu and OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Christophe Kamp among the participants.
In a statement published on the same day, the Polish foreign ministry called the gathering "one of the most important platforms of dialogue on human rights."
After taking the centre stage, Sikorski urged the OSCE members to brace for Russia's hybrid activities and said that Moscow's goal for the hybrid war is to "polarise societies and erode trust in public institutions in the democratic states."
"We could see it in Moldova just a few days ago. Russia and its local proxies attempted to influence the outcome through vote-buying, disinformation activities, and cyberattacks," the top diplomat said.
Over the next 10 days, the participants will attend sessions on human rights, international humanitarian law, fundamental freedoms, rule of law and democratic institutions, the statement wrote in closing. (PAP)
