Weimar Triangle ministers discuss European security, sanctions on Russia
Countries forming the Weimar Triangle, a platform of cooperation between Poland, Germany and France, agree that sanctions on Russia should be strengthened and any loopholes in the system closed, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has said.
Sikorski met with his German and French counterparts, Johann Wadephul and Jean-Noel Barrot, in Warsaw on Monday, joined by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
After the meeting, Sikorski expressed his concerns over Russia's recent confrontational provocations targeting Poland and Estonia. He said that the meeting on Monday focused on ways to counteract such acts and strengthening Europe's security.
Sikorski also thanked France and Germany for sending their military jets to reinforce air defence on the eastern flank of NATO.
"We have agreed that strengthened sanctions are crucial in restricting Russia's [actions]," he said, adding that all loopholes that may exist in the sanctions system should be closed.
Sikorski declared continued and comprehensive support for Ukraine fighting Russian aggression.
He also mentioned that Moldova, a country subject to Russian hybrid warfare operations, had re-elected its pro-European ruling PAS party in a national vote on Sunday, and that it deserved the backing of Europe. (PAP)
