Nawrocki pledges development of Poland’s defence technologies
Polish President Karol Nawrocki has said he will do everything to develop Poland’s defence technologies of the 21st century.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new academic year at Gdansk University of Technology in the north of the country, on Wednesday, Nawrocki argued that challenges facing Poland require cooperation between the state, scientists and students.
"As a nation we are able to achieve a great deal if, on the one hand, the state invests in scientific and academic research and, on the other hand, we have excellent staff and outstanding students who take care of our future," he said.
The president pointed to projects such as the Central Transportation Hub (CPK) and the development of anti-drone systems and unmanned aerial vehicles. "I will do everything as President of Poland to develop our 21st century defence technologies," he said, and added that within the National Security Bureau a Department of Breakthrough Technologies is being set up.
Nawrocki also spoke about the high reputation of Polish scientists. "Representatives of the largest American companies say that engineering skills, language skills and technological progress in Poland are rated the highest in the whole of Europe and they know that Poland is a competitor for the entire world," he said.
