Donald Tusk, the prime minister, has called on the Polish people to take part in the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament to defeat the ex-ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party which plans to dismantle the EU.

"A day after the elections, it (PiS - PAP) will set off with pro-Putin parties in order to destroy the European Union as you have not cast your vote," Tusk wrote on the X platform on Sunday and appealed to the Polish people to go to the polls on June 9.

In Poland, elections to the European Parliament will be held on Sunday, June 9.

Tusk made the statement after Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the PiS leader, had announced that his party was running for European Parliament to say "No."

"Kaczynski's Saturday statement about Europe: we are going there to say NO to everything but we are not saying NO now as we say YES today," Tusk wrote, adding that everybody who thinks it is funny should be afraid.

During a Saturday PiS convention, Kaczynski declared that his party would be running for European Parliament to reject the Green Deal and the migration pact. He also said that Poland was a sovereign state which would not accept a reform of the EU treaties. (PAP)
