Poland has signed an executive agreement with South Korea for 72 Chunmoo artillery launchers and several thousand guided missiles, Pawel Bejda, a Polish deputy defence minister who is currently in South Korea, announced on Thursday.

Bejda, who has been in South Korea with a government delegation since Monday, wrote on the X platform that "during the visit of the Polish delegation to (South - PAP) Korea, an executive agreement was signed for the delivery of 72 launcher modules for the HOMAR-K (integrated - PAP) system and several thousand guided missiles. The acquired technologies will allow the use of 122mm rocket ammunition produced by Polish industry."

South Korea's Hanwha Aerospace also announced the signing of Thursday's contract. It said that the value of the agreement on the supply of 72 Chunmoo artillery launchers to Poland is USD 1.64 billion.

The contract is part of an agreement concluded in 2022 between Seoul and the Polish side, signed by Mariusz Blaszczak, Poland's defence minister during the previous Law and Justice (PiS) government. The contract included the delivery of 218 launchers with a training-logistics package and ammunition supplies.

Hanwha Aerospace said in a statement that the latest agreement will enter into force only after the end of November this year when a separate financial contract is signed with government support. (PAP)
