Poland and Ukraine have begun talks on a bilateral security agreement, the chairman of the Ukrainian parliament has announced.

Ruslan Stefanchuk announced the news at a briefing following the meeting with Polish Senate Speaker Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska in Kyiv on Friday.

"Today is a very important day in the history of our relationship," he said.

"It is today that we start official negotiations on the text of the agreement on security guarantees between Ukraine and Poland. We want this agreement to be as ambitious as possible," Stefanchuk added. (PAP)
